Iwatobi High School and Samezuka Academy have formed a healthy rivalry after the last competition. With Haruka, Makoto, Rin, Rei and Nagisa becoming friends again, their attention have been preoccupied by plans after high school graduation. Rin has always been clear about his goals from the start, while Makoto seems to have found a new interest. Rei and Nagisa still have another year left. Meanwhile, Haruka in his usually cool, complacent self declares he just wants to be free , a statement which only he seems to understand. Yamazaki Sousuke transfers to Samezuka to join his childhood best friend Rin in his last year in high school. He seems to be hiding something though he claims his future is secure already. Rei wants to get better at swimming but he realizes that he cannot do so if he only has one specialty. The rest of Iwatobi fear that he might quit the team eventually.
